Quality Specialist (Procurement & Supplier Oversight)

Location: Hybrid with occasional visits to vendor sites

Position Summary

The Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all equipment, materials, and services purchased from third-party manufacturers meet stringent regulatory and contractual requirements. This role involves end-to-end quality oversight, from reviewing procurement plans to conducting high-level onsite surveillance at domestic and international supplier facilities.


Key Responsibilities

Supplier Oversight & Surveillance

  • Perform onsite surveillance and product verification at manufacturer facilities to ensure compliance with contract specifications.

  • Witness tests and verify that supplier equipment and methods meet industry and regulatory standards.

  • Conduct audits and assessments of supplier quality programs, influencing vendors to implement corrective actions when non-conformances are identified.

  • Perform documentation reviews to verify the availability and accuracy of all Quality Assurance (QA) records and regulatory approvals (e.g., CRN, electrical approvals).

Procurement & Quality Planning

  • Review and accept Supplier Quality Plans and Procurement Oversight Plans.

  • Evaluate supplier procurement processes, including subcontractor selection and proposal evaluations.

  • Provide technical guidance to engineering and supply chain teams regarding the Approved Suppliers List (ASL) and code restrictions.

  • Interface with supplier executive management to resolve complex quality matters and secure commitments for corrective actions.

Performance Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Collect and analyze supplier quality data to identify trends, develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and initiate preventative actions.

  • Lead root cause analysis for equipment or service failures and verify the effectiveness of corrective action implementation.

  • Develop divisional procedures and training to ensure quality policies are understood and consistently applied.

  • Monitor supplier health and develop mitigation plans for underperforming vendors.


Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of quality management systems, regulatory codes, and industry standards (Nuclear/Power Generation experience preferred).

  • Regulatory Compliance: Proficiency in verifying engineered product approvals, including Canadian Registration Numbers (CRN) and electrical certifications.

  • Audit & Inspection: Proven experience in source surveillance, vendor audits, and product verification within a manufacturing environment.

  • Communication: Ability to influence vendor management and collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain).

  • Adaptability: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for site visits and supplier evaluations.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$80.00 and CA$90.00
