Senior Design Manager (Infrastructure)

Location: Downtown Toronto
Duration: 6-Month Contract
Work Model: Hybrid (3–4 days in-office, project-dependent)


Position Summary

We are seeking a proactive and strategic Senior Design Manager to support a landmark transit expansion project in Toronto. This role sits at the intersection of technical engineering and high-level project management, overseeing design conformance for complex stations and guideway packages. You will lead cross-functional reviews to ensure every drawing, model, and report aligns with stringent Project Agreement requirements.


Key Accountabilities

  • Design Conformance & QA: Lead comprehensive reviews of station and guideway design packages (drawings, engineering reports, and 3D models) to ensure 100% alignment with Project Agreement (PA) standards and interface documents.

  • Resource Management: Delegate and oversee review responsibilities across a multi-disciplinary project team.

  • Stakeholder Coordination: Interface directly with the Contracting Authority to establish, monitor, and maintain critical review schedules.

  • Workflow Optimization: Manage digital review sessions (utilizing Bluebeam), maintain distribution lists, and prioritize progress to meet aggressive project milestones.

  • Technical Reporting: Brief Senior Project Engineering and Interface Management on critical findings and risks; prepare and submit formal Review Comment Sheets (RCS).


Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years in industrial engineering or mass transit infrastructure, with a specific focus on subway station design or MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) engineering.

  • Technical Standards: Deep knowledge of Ontario Building Codes (OBC) and their application in transit environments.

  • BIM Literacy: A solid understanding of BIM clash detection principles and the ability to navigate digital twins/models.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage tasking for cross-functional teams and handle multiple workstreams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Tools: High proficiency in Bluebeam and standard Project Management software.

Preferred Assets

  • Direct experience in mass transit construction or multi-disciplinary design-build reviews.

  • Strong background in electrical and mechanical systems design principles.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or a related field).

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$70.00 and CA$80.00
