Guidewire ClaimCenter Developer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Guidewire ClaimCenter Developer to support the design, development, and launch of the claims capabilities required for a new direct-to-consumer (D2C) property and casualty insurance product line.

This role will develop and customize ClaimCenter applications, implement business rules, and build integrations supporting the claims lifecycle, from first notice of loss and claims intake through processing, settlement, and closure. ClaimCenter will serve as the core claims management platform, connected to the digital channels and enterprise services required for the new offering.

Working under minimal supervision, the successful candidate will collaborate with business analysts, solution architects, claims stakeholders, digital development teams, and quality assurance specialists to translate requirements into reliable, maintainable technical solutions.

This is primarily a new-product build and implementation role, with responsibilities extending through testing, deployment, launch readiness, post-launch stabilization, and ongoing application enhancement and support.

Top Three Must-Haves

  1. Five or more years of Guidewire ClaimCenter development experience
Proven hands-on experience delivering ClaimCenter implementations, enhancements, and integrations, with involvement across technical design, development, testing, and deployment.

  2. Strong Gosu programming and ClaimCenter configuration skills
Demonstrated proficiency in Gosu and experience developing ClaimCenter business rules, configuring application functionality, extending data models, and implementing plugins.

  3. Integration development and end-to-end delivery capability
Experience building ClaimCenter integrations using web services and APIs, troubleshooting application issues, and delivering production-ready functionality in collaboration with business and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Design and New Product Line Enablement

  • Translate business requirements and functional specifications into technical designs for the new product line’s ClaimCenter capabilities, identifying development dependencies, integration needs, and implementation considerations.
  • Configure and extend claims data structures and functionality to support product-specific requirements, including the relationships between claims, exposures, claimants, and applicable coverages.
  • Assess opportunities to reuse existing functionality, apply configuration changes, or develop extensions in alignment with the approved architecture and launch scope.

Gosu Development and ClaimCenter Configuration

  • Design, develop, customize, and test ClaimCenter functionality using Gosu, including business logic, plugins, application screens, workflows, and data-model extensions.
  • Implement claims validation, triage, assignment, activity creation, escalation, and exception-handling rules to support the new product’s operating model.
  • Develop product-specific claims financial functionality, including reserve rules, transaction approvals, and authority-limit controls, in collaboration with claims and finance stakeholders.

Direct-to-Consumer Claims Capabilities

  • Develop the ClaimCenter functionality required for first notice of loss (FNOL), including product-specific intake questions, data validation, policy information retrieval, and claim creation.
  • Build ClaimCenter-side services and integrations supporting online claim submission, document and photo uploads, claim-status visibility, and customer notifications, working with digital developers responsible for the customer-facing experience. Guidewire’s digital platform supports connected, customer-facing insurance experiences alongside its core applications.
  • Implement the processing logic and exception handling needed to transition claims between digital self-service and assisted handling while preserving customer-submitted information.

Integration and Web Services Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations between ClaimCenter and customer-facing channels, policy-data sources, document management platforms, payment services, and third-party claims providers.
  • Implement plugins, web services, and API-based interfaces using the patterns appropriate to the client’s environment, including REST or SOAP services and JSON or XML payloads, as applicable.
  • Build and validate data mappings, message processing, error handling, logging, and recovery mechanisms to support reliable data exchange. Use supported Guidewire APIs and integration capabilities where appropriate.

Testing, Quality Assurance, and Deployment

  • Develop and execute unit and integration tests, validate functionality against acceptance criteria, and resolve defects identified during development, system integration testing, and user acceptance testing.
  • Participate in code reviews and support regression, performance, and security testing, including validation that new-product changes do not adversely affect existing claims functionality.
  • Support build and release activities, deployment verification, launch readiness, and post-launch stabilization, working with release management and application support teams.

Delivery Planning and Team Collaboration

  • Estimate development assignments, participate in backlog refinement and sprint planning, track progress, and communicate risks, dependencies, and delivery issues promptly.
  • Work closely with business analysts and architects to clarify requirements, evaluate technical options, and resolve implementation questions throughout delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance, share knowledge, and coach team members where appropriate, contributing to consistent development practices and a collaborative team environment.

Application Support, Documentation, and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain, support, and enhance ClaimCenter applications; diagnose incidents, investigate root causes, and implement fixes that improve application reliability and claims processing.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications, configuration documentation, interface documentation, deployment instructions, and support materials.
  • Follow and improve established development practices, processes, and guidelines; remain current with relevant technologies and perform related development and application-support duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in software development, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of five years of hands-on Guidewire ClaimCenter application development experience, including implementation, customization, enhancement, or integration work.
  • Strong proficiency in Gosu programming, with practical experience in ClaimCenter configuration, business rules, plugins, application workflows, and data-model extensions.
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting web services and API integrations involving ClaimCenter and connected systems.
  • Practical experience working with relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL), supported by an understanding of data structures, relationships, and data integrity.
  • Working knowledge of claims processing and the ability to translate functional requirements into technical solutions that support claims operations.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to identify issues, assess options, and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams, provide clear technical guidance, make sound development decisions, and support the growth of other developers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of insurance industry experience, preferably within property and casualty insurance or claims transformation.
  • Experience supporting the build-out and launch of a new insurance product line or direct-to-consumer insurance offering.
  • Experience with Guidewire Digital Portals or Jutro-based digital experiences connected to ClaimCenter, particularly digital FNOL, customer self-service, and claims communications.
  • Experience with development and delivery tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, source code management platforms, and TeamCity.
  • Experience with Unix, Windows, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Java, or React, as relevant to the application and integration environment.
  • Relevant Guidewire ClaimCenter development certification or other certifications in applicable technologies or software delivery processes.
