Senior SCADA Engineering Consultant
Contract
Location: Mississauga, ON · Hybrid (min. 3 days on-site)
Duration: 12 months, with strong likelihood of a 1-year extension (project-dependent)

We're partnering with a global leader in rail transit technology to bring on a Senior SCADA Engineering Consultant for a major light rail transit program in the western GTA. This is a contract consultant role for an engineer who's comfortable owning the technical SCADA interface end-to-end — from requirements through commissioning — in a fast-moving, milestone-driven environment.

What you'll own:

  • Act as the primary technical SCADA interface to the customer across the project lifecycle, and the technical liaison to internal teams (PMs, construction/project/application engineers) and external stakeholders (contractors, local authorities, assessors).
  • Analyze customer system specifications and decompose them into software requirements; identify gaps against standard product.
  • Produce and govern requirement documentation — high-level design, interface control documents, detailed software requirements, and traceability.
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans (resourcing, logistics, scheduling) and act as on-site lead for commissioning and acceptance testing of the full plant — controls, comms networks, power supplies, and auxiliary systems (fire detection, ventilation, HMI).
  • Define and run testing protocols toward commercial operation per contract; provide local/remote troubleshooting through commissioning and operations.
  • Build customer training and O&M handoff material (incl. train-the-trainer); produce professional commissioning/testing reports.
  • Own the associated admin: service reports, issue logs, job safety analysis, quality compliance.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years in transportation systems (railway, metro, tram, freight); SCADA and/or Maintenance Management System experience in rail/mass transit strongly preferred.
  • Solid grasp of SCADA architecture and communication protocols — Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, DNP3.
  • Knowledge of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) standards (hardware and software).
  • Hands-on familiarity with PLCs, SCADA gateways, managed Ethernet switches, media converters, digital I/O, and Windows/Linux; MMIS platforms (e.g., Maximo) a plus.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and documentation; able to run multiple workstreams in parallel; able to travel occasionally on short notice.
  • BS in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Civil). Ontario P.Eng a nice-to-have.
