Position Summary
The Systems Engineer (Professional Services) is responsible for delivering high-quality infrastructure, cloud, and client-facing IT solutions across a broad range of projects. This role combines hands-on engineering, solution design, troubleshooting, and project delivery, with a strong emphasis on service reliability, lifecycle management, documentation, and client success.
The Systems Engineer owns technical delivery throughout the project lifecycle, from design and implementation to validation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement, while working closely with internal teams and clients to ensure successful outcomes.
Job Description
Solution Design & Project Delivery
- Translate client and business requirements into scalable, secure, and resilient technical solutions.
- Design, deploy, and configure infrastructure and cloud environments, including Windows, Linux, virtualization, networking, and Microsoft 365/Azure.
- Execute project tasks aligned with approved scope, timelines, and change management processes.
- Deliver migrations, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, file services, and infrastructure upgrades, with minimal business disruption.
- Develop and execute implementation runbooks, including validation and rollback procedures.
Technical Support, Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues across cloud, infrastructure, and networking environments.
- Perform structured root cause analysis (RCA), including evidence-based findings, corrective actions, and preventative recommendations.
- Act as a technical lead or key contributor during high-impact incidents.
- Escalate issues appropriately and maintain clear communication with stakeholders.
Lifecycle & Risk Management
- Manage system lifecycle activities, including upgrades, end-of-support remediation, and platform optimization.
- Identify and communicate technical risks, including security, compliance, operational, and financial impacts.
- Proactively assess infrastructure health and recommend improvements or remediation plans.
Security & Compliance
- Identify and remediate vulnerabilities across infrastructure and cloud environments.
- Apply security best practices in system design and implementation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure secure and compliant operations.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
- Maintain accurate and detailed technical documentation, including configurations, diagrams, SOPs, and runbooks.
- Ensure documentation is complete, structured, and suitable for operational support handoff.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and process improvements.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Provide clear and timely updates regarding project progress, risks, and issues.
- Participate in technical discussions, project meetings, and client engagements.
- Coordinate cross-functional dependencies and drive resolution of project blockers.
Operational Excellence
- Adhere to internal processes, including ticket management, time tracking, and change management procedures.
- Maintain accountability for assigned deliverables and timely completion of work.
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements that enhance service quality and consistency.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or cloud environments.
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
Required Technical Skills
- VMware ESXi and vCenter administration and troubleshooting.
- Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy administration.
- Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Microsoft Azure, including virtual machines, networking, and identity fundamentals.
- Linux systems administration and troubleshooting.
- Strong troubleshooting methodology and root cause analysis capabilities.
Professional Skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Reliable availability to support project schedules and team requirements.
Preferred Assets
- RDS (Remote Desktop Services) design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- SQL Server clustering, including Always On and Failover Cluster concepts.
- Experience with on-premises to cloud migrations, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and file services.
- Backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Automation and scripting experience using PowerShell, Python, or similar tools.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$85.00 and CA$80,000
