Job Title: Systems Engineering Manager
Location: Brampton, ON
Salary Range – $100,000 – $150,000

Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a Manager, Systems Engineering to lead a dynamic team of over 90 engineers engaged in the development of advanced space and robotics technologies. This role is perfect for an experienced professional with a strong foundation in systems engineering and a passion for team leadership, professional growth, and operational excellence.

The Manager will oversee the systems engineering department, ensuring the team is equipped with the technical expertise needed to deliver high-quality products and projects. This includes driving recruitment, professional development, engagement, retention, and succession planning efforts.

In addition to managing the team, the Manager will actively contribute to key departmental initiatives such as advancing technological roadmaps, modernizing engineering practices, and fostering customer satisfaction. The role also involves supporting the implementation of next-generation engineering tools, techniques, and procedures to enhance competitiveness.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Workforce Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of over 90 Systems Engineers to achieve operational and professional success.
  • Manage the recruitment, onboarding, and training of staff to meet both current and future project needs.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, establish individual objectives, and provide clear feedback to foster growth.
  • Ensure workforce development aligns with departmental and organizational goals by identifying critical skills, avoiding resource bottlenecks, and creating succession plans for key roles.
  • Create a work environment that promotes innovation, collaboration, and career satisfaction, including celebrating team achievements.

Technical Oversight:

  • Ensure the team remains at the forefront of systems engineering techniques, tools, and requirement management practices.
  • Participate in and provide expertise during bid development and review processes to align proposed solutions with customer expectations and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee and support technical problem-solving, troubleshooting, and customer inquiries.
  • Act as a key resource for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance and the implementation of corrective actions as necessary.

Process & Resource Management:

  • Oversee departmental facilities, tools, and processes to ensure they effectively support project and program requirements.
  • Manage the departmental budget, including monitoring expenditures and providing accurate forecasts to finance.
  • Plan and justify capital investments with robust financial rationale and execute the procurement process effectively.
  • Lead and support business process improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring they are communicated and adhered to by staff.

Strategic & Front-End Business Support:

  • Collaborate with the product development team to identify and recommend new products and R&D initiatives that align with the company’s strategic direction.
  • Support patent application processes and ensure the security and proper handling of proprietary information.
  • Engage in proposal development, project management, and subcontract management as needed.
  • Actively participate in collective agreement negotiations, representing the interests of the engineering team.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering management, ideally in the space or high-tech industry.
  • Expertise in all phases of project and product development, from concept through delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles, including requirements management and resource planning.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing large, distributed teams.
  • Effective at conflict resolution, negotiations, and risk management.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and capital planning experience.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
