Job Title: System Architect

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Job Location: Ottawa, ON

Position Summary: 

You will be responsible for the high-level design and implementation of complex computer systems and networks. This role involves analyzing system requirements, ensuring systems are secure, efficient, and scalable, and providing technical leadership throughout the system development lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Design: Develop and document comprehensive system architectures, including hardware, infrastructure software, security, and network components, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical standards.
  • Requirement Analysis: Collaborate with stakeholders, including business analysts, project managers, and end-users, to gather and analyze system requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
  • Integration: Ensure seamless integration of new systems with existing infrastructure, identifying and resolving any compatibility issues.
  • Security: Implement robust security measures to protect data and systems from threats, including encryption, firewalls, and access controls.
  • Performance Monitoring: Enable continuous monitoring of system performance to identify and address bottlenecks and optimizing system efficiency.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of system architecture, configurations, and changes, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for future reference.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practices.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or college diploma and significant relevant experience.
  • Certifications: Certifications related to networking, OS, and security are an asset.  Open Group Certified Architect; Certified System Architect (CSA); Azure Solutions Architect Expert; AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional; or similar certifications are also an asset. 
  • Knowledge: System/infrastructure architecture design principles, methodologies, frameworks, and best practices; Network protocols, configurations, and security; Cybersecurity principles, practices, and tools; Project management fundamentals.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities, and the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Competencies: Ability to work under pressure, attention to detail, adaptability, and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience in technical architecture or related roles, with a proven track record of designing and implementing complex systems.

  • Containerization/Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes

 

Mandatory Requirements

  • Languages: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Travel: Ability to travel internationally (passport required) approx. 4-8 weeks/year.
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain (in a reasonable timeframe) and maintain Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) personal security clearance.
