Job Title: Technical Writer – Level 3

Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid)

Estimated Duration: 12 Months

Our client is a federal government organization with a centralized information management and technology function responsible for engineering, testing, integrating, and supporting innovative, secure, and cost-effective IM/IT solutions. The organization works closely with business and operational stakeholders to enable strategic objectives through modern, reliable technology services.

The team continuously evaluates emerging technology trends and evolving business requirements to design and integrate new infrastructure solutions, while also identifying opportunities within existing architectures to improve efficiency, reduce complexity and costs, and increase interoperability across government organizations and external partners.

This group develops, manages, and supports a broad range of enterprise processes and technical services and operates in a dynamic environment where skill sets must evolve as new capabilities are introduced. The decisions made by this team have organization-wide impact, requiring a high level of technical rigor, accuracy, and accountability.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Enterprise and solution architecture support

  • Reference architecture development and governance

  • Architecture review coordination

  • Information and data management

  • Portfolio and performance management

  • IT demand management processes

  • IM/IT systems engineering

  • Enterprise IT service management processes


Technical Writer – Level 3

We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer (Level 3 Consultant) to support complex IM/IT initiatives within a federal government environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain help text, user manuals, technical documentation, and web content for new and evolving systems and services

  • Review existing documentation and standards to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance

  • Identify documentation requirements and plan documentation deliverables across multiple projects

  • Gather and validate information from developers, architects, and subject matter experts

  • Assess target audiences and define the purpose, scope, and structure of documentation

  • Develop tables of contents and write, edit, and refine documentation content

  • Verify the accuracy of documented information through direct use of the systems or materials

  • Prepare or coordinate the development of illustrations, diagrams, and visual aids

  • Design document layouts and produce publication-ready content using word processing, desktop publishing, and graphics tools

  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the role

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in technical writing within complex IT or IM/IT environments

  • Proven ability to translate complex technical information into clear, user-focused documentation

  • Experience working independently in structured, standards-driven environments

  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$45.00 and CA$55.00
