Position Title: Business Analyst – IT
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Estimated Duration: 2.5 months

Story Behind the Need
Business group: Technology Program Management & Transformation – team that manages cloud data integration and governance for IB, providing efficient and standardized solutions that enable different business areas to access and use data securely and effectively.
Project: International Banking – Data Migration and Transformation to Cloud
Mission: To develop and maintain a cloud platform that integrates data from various sources, standardizes processes, and facilitates data publication for consumers and producers, ensuring quality, security, and accessibility.
Scope: The primary objective of this project is to design and implement a unified cloud data platform for IB across different countries.
Impact: Efficient ingestion of data from multiple on-premises sources to the cloud.
Data transformation and standardization into organized layers (landing and standardization zones).
Rapid data delivery for bank teams requiring reports, indicators, or advanced analysis.
Incorporation of reusable data products for transversal consumption across the organization.
The project prioritizes agility in delivery, enabling tactical solutions (quick, connected to local sources) when necessary, while promoting progressive advancement toward fully cloud-based strategic solutions.

Typical Day in Role:
Data Discovery
Identify and document data sources, flows, and gaps relevant to business initiatives.
Collaborate with data engineering teams to understand infrastructure, schemas, and data lineage.
Conduct stakeholder interviews to uncover analytical needs and use cases.
SME Collaboration
Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) across business lines to gather functional requirements.
Facilitate cross-functional workshops to ensure shared understanding and alignment of goals.
Translate business needs into clear, actionable technical specifications.
Data Analysis & Reporting
Analyze structured and unstructured data to derive insights and support decision-making.
Build and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and ad hoc reports to track KPIs and business performance.
Validate data accuracy and integrity across systems and reports.
Process Improvement
Assess current-state business processes and recommend improvements leveraging data insights.
Support the development of automated reporting workflows and streamlined intake models.
Track process enhancement outcomes and generate value-based reporting for stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:

  • 5-8 years of experience as a Business Analyst in data-centric or analytics-driven environments.
  • Exposure to financial services, banking, or regulated industries.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI preferable, Tableau, Looker).
  • Familiarity with data mapping, process modeling (BPMN, Visio), and documentation tools (Confluence, JIRA).
  • Spanish language

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Understanding of data governance, metadata, and quality frameworks.
  • Certification in Business Analysis (CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, or similar).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, Azure, AWS) and data modernization projects.
  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts or experience in data platform migrations.
  • Prior experience working with cross-functional teams in Agile or hybrid delivery models.
  • Familiarity with BigQuery

Soft Skills Required:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective communication skills to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • A Master’s degree is considered an asset.

Best VS. Average Candidate:
An ideal candidate for this role is bilingual in Spanish, which is essential for effectively engaging with international stakeholders and ensuring clear communication across regions. This person should not only understand data but also have the ability to translate raw data into meaningful insights. For example, when conducting financial analysis, they must be able to identify and interpret key performance indicators (KPIs), and transform those metrics into actionable information that is easy to document and visualize through dashboards.
The best candidate is someone who bases their opinions and decisions on data, not assumptions. They should be comfortable working with complex datasets, drawing evidence-based conclusions, and presenting their findings in a clear, structured manner. This analytical mindset is crucial for driving informed decision-making and supporting strategic initiatives and someone with experience with Big Query and Python.
 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$39.00 and CA$49.00
