Sr Electrical Engineer – FPGA
12 Month Contract
Location: Brampton, ON (Hybrid)
Role Overview
We are seeking a senior-level technical lead to drive the development and validation of complex hardware acceleration systems. While we don't expect mastery in every niche, the ideal candidate must possess an authoritative command of the full lifecycle for high-density programmable logic devices.
Core Responsibilities
-
Design & Implementation: Lead the development of synthesizable RTL using VHDL, ensuring code quality for both the primary logic and associated test environments.
-
Architecture & Integration: Architect solutions utilizing System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures and multi-processor logic families.
-
Bus Mastery: Implement and debug standard on-chip communication protocols (e.g., memory-mapped and streaming high-performance buses).
-
Verification Strategy: Execute rigorous pre- and post-layout simulation, formal verification, and timing closure to ensure hardware stability under extreme constraints.
-
IP Management: Manage the integration and validation of third-party silicon IP cores.
-
Physical Debugging: Conduct hands-on hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and use lab equipment to debug custom-designed circuit boards.
-
Optimization: Balance aggressive Power, Performance, and Area (PPA) targets, particularly for high-reliability or payload-specific environments.
Technical Expertise
-
Advanced Validation: Build robust verification environments using SystemVerilog and UVM. Apply functional coverage and assertions (SVA) to meet high-reliability qualification standards.
-
Signal Processing: Implement digital algorithms, including complex filtering and correlation logic, directly into hardware.
-
Serial Communication: Design and verify high-speed serial transceivers and data links.
-
Workflow: Operate within a highly structured development cycle, including requirements traceability, architectural modularization, and version control (Git-based).
Desirable Qualifications
-
Industry Standards: Experience working within NASA, MIL-STD, or equivalent high-reliability regulatory frameworks.
-
Emerging Tech: Familiarity with High-Level Synthesis (C/C++ to RTL) or Model-Based Design (Matlab/Simulink) for rapid prototyping.
-
Automation: Ability to script build and test sequences (Tcl, Python) and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
-
Formal Methods: Use of advanced mathematical proving tools to validate design safety.
Candidate Requirements
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Aerospace Engineering.
-
Experience: A minimum of 8 years in digital logic design and complex verification.
-
Soft Skills: Exceptional technical writing for design reports and the ability to present complex architectural decisions to stakeholders.
