Procurement Category Specialist

Location: Houston, TX
Job Type: Full-Time Contract-to-Hire- 6 Months

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Category Specialist to join a growing corporate procurement team supporting strategic sourcing initiatives across multiple business units. This role is responsible for developing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and identifying cost-saving opportunities while partnering closely with internal stakeholders to support business objectives.

The ideal candidate is analytical, self-motivated, and experienced in strategic procurement within manufacturing, industrial, or oil & gas environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for assigned procurement categories.

  • Conduct supplier research, market analysis, and spend analysis to identify cost savings and sourcing opportunities.

  • Prepare, issue, and manage Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Requests for Quotation (RFQs).

  • Negotiate supplier contracts, pricing, commercial terms, and long-term agreements.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

  • Analyze procurement data and spending trends to support sourcing decisions.

  • Monitor supplier performance and procurement metrics.

  • Support procurement initiatives from planning through implementation.

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and procedures.

  • Participate in cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain experience.

  • Experience developing and implementing strategic sourcing initiatives.

  • Hands-on experience managing RFPs, RFQs, supplier evaluations, and contract negotiations.

  • Strong understanding of procurement and supply chain best practices.

  • Experience working with ERP systems such as Oracle Cloud, Oracle EBS, JD Edwards, Glovia, or similar platforms.

  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) procurement categories.

  • Oil & Gas, manufacturing, or industrial procurement experience.

  • Supplier relationship management experience.

  • Spend analysis and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Procurement reporting and KPI tracking.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Experience leading sourcing projects from strategy through implementation.
