Job Title: Supply Chain Professional – L3

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for a Supply Chain Professional – Level 3 with steel industry expertise for their Burnaby location. Hybrid work is preferred; remote candidates across Canada will also be
considered.
 
Overview:
The Supply Chain Professional – Level 3 will support the development of a long-term steel category strategy by providing subject matter expertise in steel manufacturing, suppliers, pricing mechanisms, market indices, and supply chain dynamics.
This six-month engagement will focus on helping the organization better understand its steel-related spend and procurement opportunities, assess market risks, and determine whether steel should become a strategic category within its procurement portfolio.
The role is accountable for delivering assigned category and sourcing strategy outcomes in accordance with established processes and quality requirements. Assignments are generally high in complexity and/or risk, require minimal oversight, and may include leadership responsibilities.
 
Role Accountabilities:

  • Provide steel industry expertise to support the development and evaluation of a long-term steel category strategy.
  • Conduct market research and supplier and industry analysis to assess steel manufacturing capabilities, supplier dynamics, pricing mechanisms, market indices, and supply chain challenges.
  • Analyze the impact of global tensions and geopolitical events on steel supply chains and related procurement opportunities and risks.
  • Support the assessment of steel-related spend and validate strategic recommendations regarding steel’s potential designation as a strategic procurement category.
  • Develop clear, concise, and visually compelling executive-level presentations, brochure-style category profiles, and supporting materials.
  • Develop and plan category and/or sourcing strategies and related work packages using strong analytical, critical-thinking, project management, supplier research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Support the implementation of category and sourcing strategies in accordance with established processes, standards, public sector procurement law, and relevant supply chain principles.
  • Lead sourcing projects, where assigned, including multi-stage RFPs, preparation for and execution of negotiations, contract extensions, and supplier relationship management initiatives.
  • Analyze and resolve escalated contract or supplier issues, where required.
  • Establish and maintain positive, productive relationships with business partners, suppliers, and stakeholders through timely communication, issue resolution, and relevant reporting.
  • Facilitate stakeholder discussions and decision-making across multiple business functions and organizational levels.
  • Act as a supply chain subject matter expert, advising on category management and sourcing best practices, approaches, and standards.
  • Provide leadership and delegate tasks to team members, where applicable, to support delivery and enhance operational efficiency.

 
 
Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance, or equivalent.
  • Approximately 15–20 years of relevant steel industry experience, with demonstrated expertise in steel manufacturing, suppliers, pricing, and supply chain dynamics.
  • The formal Level 3 role profile requires a minimum of 20 years of sourcing or category management experience, or equivalent, with recognized credibility as an expert.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Business Management, Operations, or Engineering, preferred.
  • Certification or additional education in Project Management, Change Management, Facilitation, or Communication, an asset.
  • Experience supporting steel-related procurement, sourcing, or contract strategy initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess market trends, supplier dynamics, pricing mechanisms, and geopolitical supply chain risks.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, planning, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex assignments with minimal oversight.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced presentation development skills, with the ability to translate complex industry analysis into clear, executive-ready materials.
  • Advanced written and spoken English skills for a professional environment.

 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$85.00 and CA$94.00
