The Role
We are looking for a Data Architect to lead the design and evolution of enterprise-scale data platforms that support analytics, reporting, and AI-driven solutions. You will define the target-state architecture, establish data standards and implement governance practices, and work closely with engineering, BI, and AI teams to ensure the platform remains scalable, secure, and future-ready.
You will play a key role in shaping how data is structured, managed, and consumed across the organization while providing technical leadership and architectural guidance to delivery teams.
- Define and maintain the target-state data architecture across raw, staging, canonical, semantic, and AI-ready data layers.
- Design and govern enterprise-wide data models spanning ATS, finance, workforce, marketing, and web-based data sources.
- Establish standards for data ingestion, naming conventions, modeling, testing, documentation, and data contracts.
- Lead data governance initiatives including cataloging, lineage, data classification, access controls, and retention policies.
- Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and platforms that support the organization’s long-term data strategy.
- Guide architectural decisions related to scalability, performance, workload management, and cost optimization on Azure.
- Conduct architecture reviews and provide mentorship to data engineers and technical teams.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to define and execute the data platform roadmap.
- Support build-versus-buy evaluations for data platform components and emerging technologies.
Who You Are
- You have 5+ years of experience in data engineering, and 3+ years in data architecture, or enterprise data platform design.
- You are highly skilled with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, and Entra ID.
- You have experience integrating data from multiple business systems using CDC, API integrations, event-driven architectures, batch ELT, and Master Data Management (MDM) approaches.
- You have strong expertise in dimensional modeling, canonical data models, conformed dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions.
- You have designed and implemented scalable data platforms supporting reporting, analytics, and AI workloads.
- You have experience establishing data governance practices including lineage, cataloging, data quality, security, and access management.
- You are comfortable making architectural decisions across data storage, transformation, orchestration, and consumption layers.
- You can effectively communicate technical concepts, architectural decisions, and trade-offs to both technical and business stakeholders.
- You have experience reviewing designs and implementations to ensure alignment with architectural standards.
Nice to Have
- Experience implementing enterprise data governance solutions, including Microsoft Purview, data lineage, cataloging, and data classification.
- Experience designing data platforms that support AI and machine learning workloads, including semantic models, vector search, embeddings, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and OneLake in production environments.
- Experience designing and supporting real-time data architectures using Event Hubs, Kafka, or similar streaming technologies.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements such as SOC 2, GDPR, PIPEDA, or industry-specific data governance standards.
- Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
