The Opportunity
Data & Business Insights Analyst:
The Decision Support team plays a pivotal role in partnering with the business to deliver data?driven insights that influence performance and decision?making (including price mix, product mix, margin, and inventory). We are seeking a business-oriented data scientist/analyst to join our team, providing dedicated support to the Western Canadian Tire banners, including Sport Chek and Mark's.
Reporting to the Manager, Western Banner Decision Support, you will work within the data analytics space to leverage quantitative and qualitative data to solve real commercial problems. You will build modern analytics solutions that deliver actionable insights and support key business objectives, while also exploring and helping shape the use of emerging AI?powered tools. The ideal candidate is a self?starter who wants to deepen both technical and business skills, with increasing ownership over analytics initiatives as they grow.  This role offers exposure to senior retail leaders, ownership of meaningful analytics initiatives, and opportunities to grow both technical depth and business acumen within a collaborative analytics team.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to monthly performance reviews for retail banner leaders, highlighting key wins and opportunities that inform strategic planning and support external reporting.
  • Translate business questions into clear analytical approaches and structured analysis.
  • Serve as an analytics partner for business clients, building and maintaining strong relationships and acting as a subject matter expert for the Sport Chek and Mark's banners.
  • Develop compelling presentations and data visualizations to communicate complex findings and influence narratives.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for analysis and drive thought leadership within the business, delivering insights that influence strategy and performance.
  • Explore and prototype new approaches, including automation and emerging AI?enabled tools

 
Qualifications:

  • A degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and Python, with experience using it to analyze large datasets.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based data solutions such as Azure Synapse or Databricks is a significant asset.
  • Comfort communicating insights clearly to non?technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of autonomy.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$53,000 and CA$88,000
