Job Description
The Electrical Engineer II (Instrumentation and Controls) is responsible for executing Electrical  Instrumentation and Controls Systems engineering assignments on new construction projects at our clients shipyard. Under the direction of the Manager, Electrical Systems, or their delegate, the Electrical Systems Engineer participates in all phases of new construction design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities.

Duties/Accountabilities
 Provides engineering and design support in assigned areas of Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Systems by preparing design and calculation packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.
•    Develops design documents such as Instrumentation and Controls Lists, Interface control diagrams, termination and wiring diagrams.
•    Performs trade studies both formal and informal to determine the most efficient solutions to engineering problems and meet material budgets for systems assigned. Finds opportunities to reduce material costs below budget.
•    Develops material specifications and bills of material in accordance with our clients material strategies and customer requirements.

Education and Experience
•    Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering/ Instrumentation and Controls is required.
•    3 plus years of post-secondary experience in Electrical, controls and instrumentation Engineering is vital.
•    Experience working in a heavy industry environment is required. Shipyard experience is desirable
•    Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
•    Technical knowledge and engineering skills.
•    Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
•    Above average analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
•    Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
•    Knowledge of MRP, purchasing and management systems.
•    Good organizational skills.
•    Availability and willingness to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is vital or desirable to meet its business needs.
•    Committed to a high standard of safety and able to align with all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules.
•    Demonstrated effective leadership and influence skills and practices.
•    Provides mentoring and technical advice to subordinate Engineers in the department
•    Exercise good judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the crucial job functions.
•    PC proficiency required. Solid understanding of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$37.00 and CA$56.00
