The Opportunity:
The Decision Support team partners closely with senior leaders across the enterprise to drive data-informed decision making and strategic outcomes. We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist who will report directly to the AVP, Decision Support, and support multiple teams across the portfolio, including major retail banners and Real Estate.
This role is ideal for a hands-on data science professional who is deeply comfortable building advanced analytical and machine learning models and translating them into practical, high-impact business applications. As the enterprise accelerates its adoption of AI—particularly Generative AI—experience applying frontier AI techniques in real-world business contexts will be considered a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a senior data science partner across the Decision Support portfolio, supporting multiple teams and initiatives spanning retail banners and real estate.
  • Design, develop, and deploy advanced data science and machine learning models (e.g., predictive, prescriptive, optimization, and simulation models) to address complex business problems.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into clear analytical approaches, ensuring models are grounded in business reality and drive measurable outcomes.
  • Apply data science techniques to areas such as demand forecasting, customer behavior, pricing and promotions, site performance, space optimization, and portfolio analytics.
  • Lead the end-to-end analytics lifecycle, from problem framing and data exploration through model development, validation, deployment, and post-implementation performance assessment.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to embed model outputs into decision processes, tools, and workflows rather than one-off analyses.
  • Contribute thought leadership on advanced analytics and AI, helping shape how emerging capabilities can be responsibly and effectively applied within the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, BI, and analytics teams to ensure scalable, well-governed solutions.
  • Communicate complex analytical concepts and results clearly to senior, non-technical audiences, influencing strategy and investment decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in data science, advanced analytics, or applied machine learning roles, or an equivalent combination of experience and advanced education.
  • Strong foundation in statistical modeling, machine learning, and data science methodologies, with demonstrated experience applying them to real business use cases.
  • Proven ability to move from model development to business application, including implementation, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Experience working with cloud-based analytics and data platforms (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Synapse, or equivalent).
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience working with large, complex datasets.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate technical insights into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leaders.

Assets / Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI and modern AI frameworks (e.g., large language models, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, agent-based workflows) applied to business problems.
  • Familiarity with retail, real estate, or consumer-facing businesses.

Why This Role:
This is a high-impact senior role with direct exposure to executive leadership and the opportunity to shape how advanced analytics and AI are applied across a diverse portfolio of business problems. The successful candidate will play a key role in bridging cutting-edge data science with practical decision support, helping the organization unlock tangible value from its data and AI investments.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging:

We are committed to fostering an environment where belonging thrives, and diversity, inclusion and equity are infused into everything we do. We believe in building an organizational culture where people are consistently treated with dignity while respecting individual religion, nationality, gender, race, age, perceived ability, spoken language, sexual orientation, and identification.
