Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical and automation engineering efforts for the HVAC systems on a vessel being developed under the Canadian Coast Guard’s next-generation shipbuilding program. This role involves overseeing the review, coordination, and delivery of HVAC electrical and automation design packages, ensuring compliance with marine regulations and integration with broader vessel systems. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in shipbuilding, team leadership, and systems integration within marine environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and validate HVAC electrical and control system design documentation, ensuring technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Manage the design and development of HVAC control panels, including review of layouts, component selection, wiring diagrams, and final documentation packages.
- Oversee the architecture and integration of automation and control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and associated interfaces.
- Lead and guide a team of electrical engineers and designers responsible for producing:
- Wiring and cabling diagrams
- Single-line diagrams
- Termination and I/O schedules
- Panel layouts and equipment specifications
- Ensure all electrical and control system designs meet relevant classification society standards (e.g., DNV, ABS, LR) and applicable international codes (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including HVAC, mechanical, instrumentation, and automation groups for seamless system integration.
- Act as the primary liaison with shipyards, subcontractors, and equipment vendors during design, installation, and commissioning phases.
- Conduct technical reviews, resolve design issues, and ensure quality control across all deliverables.
- Monitor project timelines and resource planning to ensure on-time, on-budget execution.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry, particularly in marine electrical and HVAC systems.
- Proven track record of leading electrical design teams on complex engineering projects.
- In-depth understanding of HVAC control and automation systems in marine applications.
- Familiarity with control panel standards, component selection, and electrical integration principles.
- Proficiency in reviewing designs created in AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar tools.
- Strong working knowledge of marine codes and regulations, including SOLAS, IMO, and class society standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on navy or coast guard vessel projects.
- Knowledge of advanced automation systems and shipboard monitoring solutions.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration is a strong asset.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$60.00 and CA$85.00
