Job Title: Sr. Esri GIS Specialist

Our client is in the Telecommunications space and specifically IP Networks that is building out their services portfolio to include ISPs in both the US and Canada. They are expecting signifigant growth in this area for their business. They are looking to hire a Sr. Esri GIS Specialist for an initial 12 month contract term that has a strong chance to be extended. The role is considered to be remote.

GIS SPECIALIST
Focus: Spatial Analysis, Modeling & Data Science
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly technical and detail-oriented GIS Specialist to lead complex spatial analysis and data modeling initiatives. This role requires a power user of both ESRI ArcGIS Pro and QGIS, with a deep understanding of spatial statistics and automated workflows. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between raw geographic data and actionable market/municipal intelligence.
Technical Responsibilities
1. Advanced Spatial Analysis & Modeling
- Perform sophisticated Vector and Raster analysis for site selection, environmental impact, and terrain modeling.
- Architect and maintain GIS Models (ModelBuilder/Graphical Modeler) to automate multi-step analytical workflows.
- Conduct Network Analysis to solve complex routing, service area, and facility location problems.
- Execute Spatial Statistics, including Spatial Autocorrelation (Moran’s I), Cluster Analysis (Hot Spot/Cold Spot), and Interpolation (Kriging, IDW, Spline).
2. Data Strategy & Acquisition
- Census & Market Intelligence: Perform deep-dive Census analysis (ACS/TIGER) and integrate demographic data with proprietary market datasets.
- Data Sourcing: Proactively identify and extract GIS datasets from municipal, state, and federal open-data portals.
- Projection Management: Maintain expert-level control over Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS); perform precise transformations and datum shifts to ensure data integrity across disparate sources.
3. Automation & Development
- Utilize Python (ArcPy, PyQGIS, and Geopandas) to script repetitive tasks and develop custom toolsets.
- Manage data conversions across various formats including File Geodatabases, GeoPackage, GeoJSON, and KML.
Required Qualifications
- Software Proficiency: Expert-level command of ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
- Scripting: Proficiency in Python for GIS automation.
- Experience: 3+ years in a GIS Analyst or Spatial Data Scientist role.
- Analytical Skills: Strong foundation in spatial econometrics and statistical interpolation methods.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, or Computer Science.
Core Competencies
- Accuracy: An uncompromising eye for topological errors and projection mismatches.
- Resourcefulness: Ability to locate and clean “messy” municipal data from government sources.
- Visual Storytelling: Ability to produce high-quality cartographic products and executive-level summaries.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$50.00 and CA$60.00
