Our client is seeking a talented Senior Process Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager focused on the planning and engineering design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The role of Process Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager within the Water team is a dynamic position well suited to someone who can manage multiple tasks and deadlines while working with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer process mechanical systems or products for a project, and will perform a variety of tasks including calculations, design sketches and concepts, report preparation, and field work.
Projects may be broad, varied, and diverse in scope. The team is involved in a wide range of water infrastructure projects, including sewer and water mains of both large and small diameter systems, pump stations, and treatment facilities. You will primarily work on water and wastewater treatment and pumping station projects in collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership and communication skills, market knowledge, business acumen, innovative thinking, and a demonstrated history of client relationship management and account management.
Key responsibilities

  • Consistently demonstrate a commitment to health and safety culture.
  • Manage projects of varying complexity within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead technical tasks including design work, calculations, equipment sizing and selection, technical specifications, report writing, and feasibility studies for municipal infrastructure projects involving pump stations, wastewater resource recovery facilities, water treatment facilities, and stormwater management facilities.
  • Coordinate design and report deliverable packages for submission to clients and approval authorities.
  • Coordinate technical activity for Process Mechanical and other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Attend meetings with clients, team members, and sub-consultants.
  • Understand and implement industry standards and manuals, as well as client and regulatory agency standards and requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, client presentations, and communications related to specific project deliverables.
  • Prepare engineering and contract documents, including construction specifications, plans, and schedules.
  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer process mechanical systems or products for projects.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects.
  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
  • Participate in basic cost estimating under the direction of technical leaders to support engineering projects.
  • Maintain involvement in regional industry professional associations.
  • Provide independent quality reviews for peers on proposals and project deliverables within your technical area of expertise.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and peers.
  • Conduct occasional site visits.

 
Capabilities and credentials

  • Proven technical skills in delivering process mechanical projects, including engineering calculations, literature reviews, specifications, drawing preparation, and cost estimating.
  • Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal requirements, and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Broad understanding of municipal engineering, hydraulics, and process mechanical systems design, including materials and industry standards.
  • General understanding of construction means and methods and their disturbance impacts on project sites.
  • Understanding of engineering phases, capital project delivery, client procurement procedures, and typical regulatory approval processes.
  • Experience managing client expectations and engineering budgets.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment without direct supervision.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Additional business development training and certifications are considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Education and experience
 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Process, Environmental, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s or PhD degree in water/wastewater treatment process or mechanical engineering disciplines is considered an asset.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.

Typical work will be performed in an office environment with computer-based tasks and desk work, with some field work that may involve exposure to weather and site conditions. The team operates under a hybrid work model combining work-from-home and in-office support. Applicants for this role will be expected to spend the majority of their work week in the Burnaby BC office.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$114,600 and CA$164,600
