Web Services Systems Administrator
The Web Services Systems Administrator plays a key role in managing and evolving the digital infrastructure that supports our client’s public-facing and internal web presence. This position ensures the reliability, security, and scalability of web platforms while supporting content management systems, with a strong emphasis on Drupal based applications.
Working within a collaborative IT team, the incumbent will oversee server and application environments, and support a Drupal-based CMS migration with a third party vendor, and provide technical expertise to support the delivery of accessible, performant, and user-focused websites across the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain enterprise-level web hosting environments (e.g., LAMP stack, Linux servers, web proxies, caching layers) that support content-rich academic websites
- Manage and configure Drupal CMS platforms, including module installation, security updates, and performance optimization
- Experience with Drupal v 7 and 11 is ideal
- Lead website migration projects from legacy systems or alternate CMS platforms into Drupal, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to content governance standards
- Collaborate with developers, designers, and communications teams to implement and support user-friendly, standards-compliant digital experiences
- Ensure compliance with web accessibility (WCAG), privacy, and security policies
- Implement and monitor backup, disaster recovery, and system integrity strategies
- Provide troubleshooting support for web services, including CMS issues, hosting environment bugs, and integration challenges with third-party tools (e.g., identity management, analytics, API-based services)
- Maintain documentation of server architecture, CMS configurations, deployment pipelines, and operational procedures
- Stay current with Drupal development best practices, university-wide digital governance guidelines, and relevant emerging technologies
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 4–6 years of system administration experience in a web-focused environment, with demonstrated expertise managing CMS platforms
- Strong proficiency in administering and deploying Drupal 9/10 sites, including module development and theming fundamentals
- Experience managing migrations from legacy content management systems or static sites into Drupal
- Hands-on knowledge of web server infrastructure (Apache, NGINX), containerization (Docker), version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong familiarity with Linux-based server environments, PHP, MySQL, and shell scripting
- Solid understanding of web accessibility, security best practices, and content governance in a higher education or complex institutional setting
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Assets
- Experience with Pantheon, Acquia, or other enterprise-grade Drupal hosting environments
- Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Twig), and JavaScript libraries
- Experience in an academic, research, or public sector environment
- Knowledge of web analytics, SEO best practices, and digital service delivery in large organizations
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$40.00 and CA$55.00
